Painless Project Management
A one-page way to run a project without becoming a project manager. Three steps, one page each: charter it, run it, report it.
The problem it solves
Most projects in a department are run by someone whose actual job is something else. They do not need a Gantt chart, a RACI matrix, or a 40-page methodology. They need to know what was approved, where the money stands, whether the next milestone is on time, and who to ask for help. The heavyweight tools make that harder, not easier, and the result is that the project lives in one person's head.
How it works
- 1. Charter itOne page: department, sponsor, lead, why, what, what we get, approved budget, whether it needs a capital request or a contract, start and end dates. Until the page is complete, it is not a project.
- 2. Run itUp to eight milestones. Three money numbers: approved, spent, forecast. A two-minute weekly update: schedule, budget, and whether you need help, and where.
- 3. Report itEvery project rolls up to one view sorted by who needs attention: help requests, off-track schedule or budget, and projects that have gone quiet. An executive summary is written automatically.
- Export anywhereThe roll-up exports to CSV with one row per project and one column per field, flat on purpose so it maps directly to monday.com or any other board.
Rules of the road
- Every project has a sponsor and a lead. Nobody else needs a title.
- Eight milestones, maximum. If you need more, it is two projects.
- The weekly update takes two minutes. Post it on Friday, even when nothing changed.
- Red is not failure. Hiding red is.
- If you need help, say where. That is how help finds you.
Editions
The public demo build keeps projects in your browser, so it is single-user and single-device: good for trying the method, running your own projects, or showing it to a director. The same page runs against a shared database for a team; every read and write goes through one small storage object, so moving to a shared version is a configuration change, not a rewrite.
