Privacy policy

What we collect, which is very little.

This policy covers the Tompkins Software Systems website, the newsletter, and the products we publish. It is written to be read. If anything here is unclear, ask us and we will fix the wording.

Effective October 17, 2026. Tompkins Software Systems LLC, an Illinois limited liability company, is the data controller for everything described here.

This website

  • No cookies, no analytics, no advertising. We do not use tracking scripts of any kind, and fonts are served from our own site rather than a third party.
  • Hosting logs. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type) for security and operations, as any web host does. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
  • Links to other sites are governed by those sites' own policies.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to The Work Order, we store your email address and, if you chose one, the role you selected, with the mailing service that sends the newsletter. We use that information only to send the newsletter and to decide what to write about. We do not sell, rent, or share it, we do not track opens or clicks, and every issue includes an unsubscribe link that removes you immediately. You can also ask us to delete your address at any time.

Contact form and support

When you write to us, we keep the message and your contact details for as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation.

Part 107 Prep (website and mobile app)

  • No account. The app and the study site do not ask you to sign up or sign in.
  • No data leaves your device. Your progress, scores, streak, settings, and reminder preference are stored on your phone or in your browser's local storage. There is no server behind the app and we never receive, see, or have access to your data.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no third-party software development kits that collect data.
  • Reminders are scheduled by the app on your device, with your permission, and can be turned off in Settings.
  • Deleting your data is as simple as deleting the app or clearing the site's browser data. Nothing remains anywhere else.

Public Works Safety Training

The platform is operated by the department that installs it. Employee accounts, training records, quiz attempts, and incident reports are stored on the department's own server or, in the browser edition, in the employee's own browser. Tompkins Software Systems does not receive any of this data and has no access to it unless a department has contracted with us to host the platform, in which case the hosting agreement governs how the data is handled, where it is stored, and how it is returned or deleted at the end of the agreement. Email reminders are sent by the department's own mail server.

Painless Project Management

The public demo build stores projects only in your browser's local storage. Team versions we host for a customer are governed by that customer's hosting agreement.

Phantom Soldier

phantomsoldier.org is owned and operated by Project Veteran Overwatch. Stories submitted through its form go to PVO, not to us, and PVO's own practices govern them. We built the site and we do not receive anything entered on it.

Children

Our products are not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Because we hold so little, this is usually a quick reply. Residents of states with privacy laws that grant additional rights have those rights with us too.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and material changes will be noted on the updates page. We will not weaken a privacy promise made for a product that is already published.
