Name, logo, colors, type.
Everything a partner, a reporter, or a procurement office needs to refer to us correctly. The logo files are free to use when writing about the company or listing us as a vendor.
The name
- Legal name: Tompkins Software Systems LLC. Use it in contracts, invoices, and vendor records.
- Everyday name: Tompkins Software Systems on first mention, TSS after that.
- Do not use "Tompkins Software," "Tompkins Systems," or "T.S.S."
- Product names are written as shown on their pages: Public Works Safety Training, Painless Project Management, Part 107 Prep, and Phantom Soldier.
Logo
A brass T on an evergreen tile with a paper baseline. Use the lockup where there is room and the mark alone at small sizes. Do not recolor or stretch it.
Colors
Evergreen and brass on paper. Four colors do the work; lighter and darker steps of the green and brass handle buttons, links, and the footer, and those values are in the stylesheet.
- Evergreen
#12352bheader bands, footer, buttons - Brass
#d4a84baccent, never large areas - Paper
#fbfbf8page background - Ink
#1a221etext
Typography
Source Serif 4
Headings and the wordmark, weight 600. An open-source serif with optical sizing, chosen because it reads as an institution rather than a startup.
Public Sans
Body text, interface, and labels, weights 400 to 700. The typeface of the U.S. Web Design System, so it is already familiar to anyone who reads government websites.
Both typefaces are licensed under the SIL Open Font License and are self-hosted on this site; no font requests go to a third party.
Voice
- Plain, specific, and short. Say what the product does, not what it "empowers."
- Numbers over adjectives: "twelve modules," not "comprehensive training."
- No exclamation points. No em dashes. Sentences end with periods.
- Status labels are literal: Available, In preparation, Internal. Never "coming soon" without a reason.
- Write for a crew lead reading on a phone in a truck.
