100 percent veteran-owned.
Tompkins Software Systems LLC is wholly owned by a veteran. Here is what that means in practice and what we can provide for your vendor file.
What it means for how we work
Veteran-owned is a procurement category, and we are glad to meet it. It is also how this company runs. Three habits show up in every engagement:
- A written plan before the work starts. No project begins without a one-page charter that names the objective, the definition of done, the budget, and the dates. It is the first thing we ask a customer to read.
- A short, honest status, on a schedule. Every week, in writing: schedule, budget, and whether we need help. Reporting red is expected. Hiding it is the only failure.
- An after-action review when it is over. What was planned, what happened, why, what to sustain, what to improve. We write one for every engagement, including the free ones, and we share it with the customer.
Serving veterans
We set aside a share of our time every year for pro bono software work for nonprofits that serve veterans, and the organization owns everything we build. The first is Phantom Soldier, built for Project Veteran Overwatch. Details are on the pro bono program page.
For procurement
Many state and local agencies set aside purchases or award preference points to veteran-owned businesses. We can provide the following for your vendor file:
- A signed statement of 100 percent veteran ownership and control
- Proof of service on a confidential basis, for verification only
- Our Illinois organization documents and, once issued, a certificate of good standing
- Completed vendor and supplier diversity forms in your format
We plan to apply for formal veteran-owned business certification with the State of Illinois once the company's registration is complete, and we will list it here when it is granted. Until then, we do not claim any certification we do not hold.
